Harry was a scrawny little boy whose routine was to be chased or bullied by his cousin Dudley regularly, and aim in life was to pass yet another day without being bullied. Then, out of the blue, everything changed on the day when Dudley got a pig’s tail from a giant with a pink umbrella!
Seems a bit overwhelming, perhaps?
The thing is, Harry is a wizard, by his birthright, both from the sides of his father and mother. His parents were killed at the hands of the most powerful dark wizard of the time, whom people feared to even mention by name, You Know Who! Harry might have been at risk, so he was sent to his only relatives on earth — his aunt’s family. They are among those Muggles (non-magical people) who would not believe in magic even if it was performed before their very eyes.
So, the poor little wizard was stuck with the most magic-despising people on earth.
No wonder his life was a little more than uncomfortable.
But things change.
Before his eleventh birthday, when their house starts being flooded by letters brought by a variety of owls, Uncle Vernon takes all of them out and they end up spending the night in a shack in the middle of the sea. However, despite his 'clever plan', a letter arrives at midnight, carried by a giant who claims to be the gamekeeper of a magic school!
Harry turns eleven to know that he is a wizard.
Best birthday gift ever, would you not agree?
As a result, our hero goes to catch his train to his school, from Platform Nine and Three-Quarters. There he meets another freshman of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Ron Weasley, soon to be one of his best friends, and together they pass through the wall to reach the train.
What happens after Harry gets to his school? What does the queer-looking hat whisper in his ear? Why does professor Snape dislike him so much? Will Harry be able to win the midnight duel, although he has no idea how to use his magic wand? What creatures lurk in the Forbidden Forest?
