Living in Dhaka has its own perks. We have every kind of modern amenities. Still sometimes we think that there are some lacking in our lives and it would be better if we could get out of the city even for a while. And these thoughts come in our mind, mostly when we think about our children.

The city population is increasing day by day and we have very little space to even walk in the evening. Children living in the city don’t even know what an actual playground looks like. All they have are the rooftops of their apartments. We all realise and agree that children do need to have some form of physical exercise besides their studies, to keep mentally healthy. At their age, playing in the afternoon would be the best way to keep themselves fit. But as most of them don’t have this opportunity, they need to find some other way. And this is our initiative to help you and your children out.

Why Should Children Swim:

Swimming is by far the best workout anybody can have. It’s true that the city doesn’t provide us that much opportunity to swim, but still there are some swimming clubs and pools in Dhaka.

Swimming is an excellent cardiovascular workout that promotes heart and lung health, improves strength and flexibility, increases stamina and even improves balance and posture. In addition, swimming is a way to prevent childhood obesity, which has been linked to juvenile diabetes. Swimming also puts less strain on joints and connective tissues than other forms of exercise. The natural buoyancy of the water is more relaxing than other types of exercise as well. Swimming can also improve overall mood, and help combat depression.

Drowning is the second leading cause of death for people between the ages of 5 and 24. By teaching your child to swim, he will not only become a strong swimmer, but also gain valuable experience in the water. This experience greatly reduces the risk of an emergency if your child accidentally falls into an unguarded pool or is pulled into deep water by a rip current at the beach.

Where to Swim in Dhaka:

There are a good number of swimming clubs in Dhaka and a lot of people are learning swimming including children.

Sultana Kamal Sports Complex in Dhanmondi is exclusively for women. It has been offering swimming facility for women since mid 1980s. The other pools have separate sessions for men and women.

The swimming pool of Dhaka University is open for all and it is a good place to swim.

In Guslhan Avenue, there is a health club and swimming pool named Ratan’s Health Club and Swimming Pool.

The Officer’s Club Swimming Pool at New Bailey Road is one of the best and it would be a great place for your child to learn swimming. Officers' Club and Dhaka Club's facilities are only for their members though.

The Staff College Swimming Pool is located at Pallabi and it is quite good also.

Other than these, if you want something classy, then you would definitely love the pools of Pan Pacific Sonargaon, Radisson Water Blu, The German Club and The Dhaka Regency.

So, choose a swimming club and jump into the water with your children. But, ensure your child’s safety in the water. Don’t let them be fully dependent on the swimming toys as they might lose air or float away anytime. Keep an eye on them and don’t let them go into deep water unless they are fully trained.

Have fun swimming!!
