Thousands of people, running. They seem to have the same destination. People of different nations are running one after another and side by side. Seems like a multiracial procession on the roads of Dhaka.
What is that exactly? What are these people doing?
This is the famed Novo Nordisk Dhaka Half Marathon 2015.
Being the third international running event in Bangladesh, this undertaking provided opportunities for thousands of people to run a certain distance side by side world-famous athletes around vital landmarks of Dhaka city.
The race course of the Half Marathon featured Jatiyo Sangshad Bhaban (The National Assembly of Bangladesh), Novo Theatre (The Planetarium of Bangladesh), Dhaka Army Museum and Hatirjheel Development Project.
This event was divided into two categories: (i) a run of 21.1 kilometres (13.1 miles) and (ii) another having the distance of 10 kilometres. Both of these started from Gulshan Shooting Club but the destination of the 21.1 km run was Manik Mia Avenue, where the shorter run stopped after 10 kilometres.
More than 3,000 people of different backgrounds took part in the 21.1. km long run. The Salauddin, Jabbar, Barkat, Rafiq and Salam Memorial Run (10 km run) also attracted over 2.000 participants! Starting from 7 AM in the morning, from Gulshan Park, the two runs continued for 3 and 2 hours respectively.
