"Every legend has a beginning”- is what they wanted to tell through the story. The story of an orphan who is spirited away to the magical Neverland. There, he finds amazing adventures and fights life-or-death battles while trying to uncover the secret of his mother, who left him at the orphanage long ago, and his rightful place in this magical land. Teamed with the warrior Tiger Lily (Rooney Mara) and a new friend named James Hook (Garrett Hedlund), Peter (Levi Miller) must defeat the ruthless pirate Blackbeard (Hugh Jackman) to save Neverland and discover his true destiny—to become the hero who will forever be known as Peter Pan.
As the movie is from the studios that brought us “Harry potter”, the expectations of fascinating graphics live up to the mark. But so long as telling of the story of “the boy who never grows up” or “the boy who could fly”, there lies a bit of disappointment. Like any other Warner Brothers’ productions, the film is all about magic and dreaming which definitely gives us a happy heart at the end of the day, but this time it may feel a little too much as there are so many things going on in the screen. Cruising through gorgeous visual and beautiful shanties, but unfortunately on shallow narrative.
The film fulfills its limited mandate of providing fast-paced adventure and some nice eye candy without adding anything memorable to the tale of The Boy Who Can Fly.
The movie as a typical jolly film can give you some hours of enjoyment, but there’s nothing to take back home other than the same old values of “believing in yourself” and “the power of team work”. The whole film based on magic had nothing very magical in it. It was like watching the same trick again in a different attire.
It's not that Pan isn't entertaining. There's plenty of color and action and some innovative 3-D effects but if someone wants a little bit more than just entertainment, a little bit more than just a few hours of happiness, then Pan is not the film to watch. But the film can definitely give you a couple of hours of relaxation on your weekend.
