In classroom management, it is essential to manage the students’ work properly so that they are assessed accurately. Proper assessments motivate students to do better in future. Here are some tips on managing students’ work:

1. Explain assignment goals:

Provide reason for assignments or explain what students will get out of completing the assignment. Create reasonable and clear due dates.

2. Post directions:

Providing an oral explanation may not be enough, post the instructions where all students can refer back to them. Leave time after explaining the instructions for questions.

3. Use software to keep track of students’ grade:

There are many different ways to set your grade book up. Excel spreadsheets are one example of setting this up. Make sure to remember that students’ grades and other personal information are confidential.

4. Make sure to label students’ groups:

If students are working in groups, make sure their groups are labeled so they know what they are supposed to work on.

5. Make time to help students who were absent:

Students are going to be absent from time to time, make sure you have plans for them. Otherwise, they will fall behind. Establish a time for students to come to you to get the make-up work or instructions.

6. Walk around the room:

Try going around the room to check each student’s work, it works well for written assignments.

7. Teach students how to do peer review:

Peer review is a great way to assess a student’s assignment. Try to teach students how to do it and use this procedure at least twice a week.

8. Evaluate students’ work quickly:

Look over assignments, grades, records and return assignments quickly. This is helpful for immediate and specific feedback, it can also help you see if a student is falling behind, and how you can help them.

9. Give regular feedback:

Your feedback needs to be frequent and regular. Provide immediate and specific feedback, and tell them what they need to do to correct errors. Make sure to check, after errors have been corrected.

10. Use grades to measure progress and to encourage students:

Student's graded work should not be recorded as a grade, but more as a progress check. Send graded work home to parents as well. Display students’ work in the classroom to encourage them.

Most of all be very precise and spe

cific about your instructions. Make sure your students understand what you actually want them to do. Be careful with assessments and feedbacks.

Happy Teaching!!
